Sterling Oil sponsors VCDF and FRSC partnership to screen long-distance drivers for eye health in Delta

Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) has intensified investment in public health and safety of communities across Nigeria through Vcare for Development Foundation (VCDF). In partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS 5.26 Kwale Unit Command, VCDF delivered an integrated eye screening and road safety outreach for long-distance drivers in Kwale, Delta State.

The outreach was flagged off on Monday, 31 August 2026, at the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Park with FRSC officials, Red Cross volunteers, transport union leaders, and community representatives in attendance. The outreach addressed the public health and safety challenge in Nigeria, where road traffic crashes continue to cause significant injury and death, particularly among commercial and long-distance drivers. It was a strategic opportunity to promote eye health awareness and encourage drivers to seek regular vision screening to avoid preventable blindness and road hazards.

A total of 105 persons, including long-distance drivers, community men and women, FRSC members were screened during the outreach. Three cataract and eight pterygium cases were identified. People with cataract or pterygium will be managed at the VCDF-supported Cataract Surgery Unit (CSU). 28 prescription glasses, and 27 medications were given to eligible participants during the outreach.

VCDF also provided branded banners, IEC flyers for community sensitization, branded T-shirts, wrist bands and writing pens. These reiterate Sterling Oil and VCDF as committed partners in the safety and development of communities across Nigeria.

The outreach is an extension of the foundation’s Sustainable Primary Eye Care Services (SPECS) programme sponsored by Sterling Oil since 2023. It is noteworthy that 1926 people have been screened and over 1500 successful cataract and pterygium surgeries done since 2023.
Since inception, VCDF has reached 26,959 lives through integrated health programmes and over 80,683 lives touched in Akwa Ibom, Delta and Lagos States by implementing high-impact interventions.

VCDF will continue to leverage Sterling Oil’s corporate social responsibility investments to work with government, partners, and relevant institutions for the best public health outcomes across Nigerian communities.
