MLSCN INDUCTS GRADUATES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS
The Graduates of the department of the Medical Laboratory Science, College of Medicine University of Lagos were inducted into the profession by the Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Tosan Erhabor on the 22nd December 2023 at the old Great Hall of the College of Medicine Idi Araba.
The Provost of the College, Prof. David Adewale Oke welcomed the guests and the inductees to the 7th induction and award ceremony of the department of Medical Laboratory Science for the 2021/2022 Session. He enjoined them to remember what they were taught and to remain the good Ambassadors of the College. He congratulated the inductees for their successful completion of their programs and commended the lecturers for the job well done.
In his Short remark, Prof. Oluyemi Akinloye, the Dean Faculty of the Basic Medical Sciences also appreciated the department for the efforts the lecturers put into the tasks that culminated into the activities of the day. He advised the inductees to be more focused and determined to be successful in life.
The Guest Speaker at the occasion was Mrs Adebukunola Telufusi, the Executive Director, Xcene Research and was represented by Dr. Oluwafemi Olukayode.
The induction lecture was titled “Staying Relevant in Professional Practice: Strategies for Professional Development and Career Advancement”.
The Speaker made it clear to the audience that in the ever evolving landscape of healthcare, staying relevant is not a mere ambition, it is imperative.
He enumerated the strategies that guide on the path of professional development and career advancement including embracing lifelong learning, fostering Professional Networks, Seeking Mentorship, Embracing Technological Advancement, Prioritizing Professional Ethics and Setting of Clear Career goals.
The Head of the department of the Medical Laboratory Science, College of Medicine University of Lagos, Prof. Kolawole Solomon Oyedeji was full of joy when he mounted the stage to present the twenty five inductees.
The representative of the Registrar of MLSCN, Mr Greg Uchuno administered the code of conduct of the MLSCN on the Inductees. Thereafter he presented the provisional license to the Inductees.
He conveyed the Registrar messages to the Inductees that they should embrace the huge responsibilities coming their way in the course of their duties.
He sounded a note of warning that they should not enlist themselves into the National Youth Service Corps without completing the internship programme and obtaining the practicing license.
Awards presentation was done by the Head of the department Prof. Kola Oyedeji. Umelo, Chukwuemeka Quincy emerged as the overall best graduating student. The others who received the awards included Odebamike David Ayomide, Adetoro Tolulope Rhoda, Oke Daniel Oluwatobiloba and Idowu Olabisi Anike.
Prince (Dr) Elochuckwu Adibo, the President of the GMLD presented the award to the overall best graduating students in Histopathology and immunochemistry. In addition, Prince Adibo promised automatic internship slots to the product of the department.
The inductees were later presented to the Chairmen of both the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Lagos, Mr Abioye Omoyemi and Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD) Lagos, Adekoya Abimbola Julius for the purpose of intimating them with the expectations from the Association.
The Chairperson of the induction committee, Dr Francisca Nwaokorie appreciated all the guests for joining in the celebration. She equally thanked the Lecturers of the department for the well delivered assignments.
Those present included the academic staff of the department, Prof Mary T. Niemogha, Dr Nwaokorie F. O, Dr C. O. Agomo, Dr Oloruntoba Ekun, Dr E. A. Adenipekun, Dr A. O. Olalekan, Dr Olayiwola Popoola, Dr Nkeiruka Ogidi, Mr Bassey Ibiang, Mr Osiagwu Daniel, Mrs Yomi Newton, President, Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, the Zonal Head of MLSCN South West, Mr Paulinus Nnamdi Offutalu and Mr A. Adejare.
