AMLSN Lagos Civil Service Chapter Honours Members at New Year Celebration
The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria Lagos State Civil Service Chapter (AMLSN-LSCSC), on Thursday, 8 January 2026, held its New Year Party and awards ceremony at the NANNM Secretariat Hall, Ikeja, celebrating members’ contributions to the growth and stability of the Chapter.
The event, organised under the leadership of the Chapter Chairperson, MLS Munirat Owodunni, also featured a warm reception for the newly elected Chairman of the AMLSN Lagos State Branch, Comrade Gbolahan Kabiawu, who is a member of the Civil Service Chapter.

In her address, MLS Owodunni expressed appreciation to members for their sustained support over the years, noting that the cooperation of elders and the commitment of the general membership were central to the successes recorded by her executive team. She described the Chapter as a symbol of unity within the profession and urged members to maintain solidarity in the new year.
Comrade Kabiawu was received into the hall with music, dance, and jubilation, reflecting members’ confidence in his emergence as State Chairman and their optimism for his tenure.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Chapter and the profession.
Best Supportive Unit Awards were presented to:
- Lagos State Primary Health Care Board
- ABAT Comprehensive Health Centre
- Lagos Island Maternity Hospital
Best Supportive Medical Laboratory Scientist Awards went to:
- MLS Sofoluwe Rofiat
- MLS Udeh Ukachi
- DMLS Ekundayo Toyin
Best Supportive Retiree
- DMLS Yomi Newton
Awards of Excellent Performance were conferred on:
- MLS Leslie Olarenwaju, the Chapter’s immediate past Chairman
- MLS Yemisi Adekola
- MLS Afuwape Olakunle
- MLS Gbolahan Kabiawu, AMLSN Lagos Chairman
- MLS Abioye Omoyemi, immediate past AMLSN Lagos Chairman

An Award of Recognition was presented to Alhaja Adeola Kafayat Afolabi, while the Award of Mentorship was bestowed on Mrs Funmilayo Oggar, in recognition of their guidance and support to younger professionals.
The ceremony was attended by notable stakeholders and leaders within and outside the profession, including Dr Olawale Oladubu; DMLS Olatunji Tajudeen; DMLS Yomi Newton; DMLS Egbuna Olufunmilayo; DMLS Jenrola Olarenwaju; the Chairman of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD), MLS Julius Abimbola Adekoya; GMLD South-West National Vice President, MLS Onaneye Olumuyiwa; AMLSN Lagos State Immediate Past Chairman, MLS Abioye Omoyemi; and DMLS Funmilayo Adetoun Adegbite. Some awardees and dignitaries were ably represented at the event.
Participants described the gathering as a positive way to commence the year, reinforcing professional bonds and reaffirming the Chapter’s commitment to excellence, mentorship, and collective progress within the Lagos State Civil Service.
Many members commended the AMLSN-LSCSC executive, MLS Opeola Mojisola, Chairman, Planning Committee and MLS Ufot Joseph John Secretary, Planning Committee for the organisation and inclusive leadership, expressing optimism that 2026 would bring greater unity and professional advancement for medical laboratory scientists in the state.
