Associate Prof Pius Omoruyi Omosigho, a  Microbiologist  and a Virologist was announced a full Professor by Edo State University, Iyamho on Wednesday 5th March 2025

Prof. Omosigho Omoruyi Pius is a Professor of Medical Microbiology /Virology  and Ag.Dean Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, a former Head of Department (HOD), Department of Medical Laboratory Science  Edo State University Uzairue, a former Senior lecturer and Acting. Head of Department Medical Laboratory Science Kwara State University and  a former  Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Department of Medical Microbiology Federal Medical Centre Bida Niger State Nigeria. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Medical Microbiology and a doctorate  in Medical virology in Medical Laboratory Science. He has over seventy six scientific publications in local and international journals. He is a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science(FWAPCMLS), Associate Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN). He is a strategic manager and a full member of the prestigious Institute of Strategic Management Nigeria.

Prof. Pius’s research interests are centered on infectious diseases, with a particular focus on epidemiology and public health. He has contributed significantly to the understanding of diseases like rotavirus gastroenteritis in children, cytomegalovirus among HIV-positive patients, and the stigma associated with infectious diseases in Africa.  His scholarly output includes over 60 publications, reflecting his active engagement in research and collaboration within the scientific community.

In addition to his research, Prof. Pius is involved in academic mentorship and community health initiatives, aiming to bridge the gap between laboratory findings and practical health solutions. His work not only advances scientific knowledge but also addresses pressing health challenges, particularly in the context of infectious diseases in Nigeria and broader African regions.

In addition to journal articles, Prof Pius has authored books, including “Hepatitis B & C Infection Among Voluntary Blood Donors: In Bida, North Central Nigeria,” which addresses critical issues in blood safety and infectious disease transmission.

He is married to Mrs Loveth Omosigho and blessed with children.
