GMLD LAGOS: TRANSITION WITHOUT TRANSGRESSIONS

The 2026 election of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD) Lagos has concluded without the crisis, turbulence, and fracas that have, in recent times, characterized electoral processes within our professional space. This outcome was not accidental. It reflects deliberate restraint, institutional maturity, and a shared commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the association.

This success was made possible by the disciplined conduct and understanding of leadership at all levels, national officers, state executives, and the entire membership in Lagos State. The electoral process was allowed to run its full course without undue interference. Leadership remained anchored on clear criteria, demonstrable commitment to the association, proven capacity to deliver, and the principle that responsibility should rest with the most capable hands.

Aspirants were encouraged to engage one another constructively rather than being pressured into withdrawal. Ethnic and religious considerations were consciously excluded from candidate selection. These choices were significant. They affirmed that GMLD Lagos is guided by merit, collegial respect, and institutional values rather than factional loyalties.

Elections must never become instruments that set colleague against colleague or fracture professional brotherhood and sisterhood. We must continually resist systems that divide along tribal, religious, or sectional lines. The credibility of our association and the respect it commands within the health sector rests on our ability to compete without rancour and to unite without coercion.

The newly elected executive carries a clear mandate to be innovative in ideas, productive in action, and effective in outcomes. The leadership team, Chairman, Doris Chinelo Callistus Mark; Vice Chairman, Ikechukwu Valentine Unamba; General Secretary, Emmanuel Remi Oluleye Faleye, Treasurer, Funmilola Ololade Akande; Financial Secretary, Stellamaris N. Ikegwuonu; Welfare Officer, Anota Adedayo Ojo; Publicity Secretary, Vincent Okechukwu Iwunze; Auditor, Bethel Onyinyechi Maduka; and Assistant General Secretary, Emeka Anthony Onyejiji, deserves the support, cooperation, and understanding of all members. Their tenure will be assessed not by promises but by measurable progress stronger professional advocacy, deeper member engagement, and tangible contributions to healthcare quality in Lagos State.

GMLD Lagos has demonstrated that orderly transition is possible without transgressions. The responsibility now is to translate this electoral maturity into sustained institutional performance.

I acknowledge with gratitude the support and solidarity of the National President, Dr Samuel Fele, Prince (Dr) Elochukwu Adibo, Olumuyiwa Onaneye, Igwe Akujuobi, and Comrade Gbolahan Kabiawu, whose steadfastness at critical moments strengthened this process.

Having completed my tenure, I step aside with the hope that the visibility, financial independence, and unity established within the GMLD Lagos will be preserved and advanced.

I will continue to serve in my present capacity as Servant Leader or Ex-Officio with the same commitment, mindful of the enduring lesson that power is transient and stewardship is temporary.

Adekoya Abimbola Julius

Former Chairman, GMLD Lagos
