The Lagos State Secretariat Alausa stood still to celebrate a dedicated and committed staff member, Jenrola Olanrewaju Idris who retired from the active service of the State and celebrated his 60th birthday on the 13th February 2025.
The ceremony was colourful with his colleagues dressed in the same Aso Ebi to appreciate the man for what he stood for.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Olusegun Ogboye extolled the virtue of the celebrant for being a trusted and reliable member of staff of the Ministry. He went further to say “though your look did not match your age because you looked younger than sixty. I pray to God to keep you healthy for the tasks ahead of you”
Other speakers testified to the fact that Mr Lanre Idris Jenrola is nice, amiable with exemplary behaviour.
Jenrola Olanrewaju Idris started his journey in education at The Apostolic Church Primary School, Cemetery Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos. He later advanced to Okemagba High School, Mojoda, Epe, where he studied from 1977 to 1982. Determined to build a career in the medical field, he pursued a Medical Laboratory Technician course at Lagos State College of Health Technology between 1983 and 1985.
His passion for science and agriculture led him to the former Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, where he studied General Agriculture from 1986 to 1988.
Continuing his academic pursuit, he gained admission to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, to study Medical Laboratory Sciences from 1991 to 1995.
His professional journey took a significant step forward when he joined the Lagos State Civil Service on March 1, 1998. Later, he obtained retrospective approval to further his studies and earned a Master’s degree from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
Jenrola Olanrewaju Idris has made remarkable contributions to medical laboratory science and public health in Nigeria. He is a dedicated professional with numerous accolades, including:
● Served as a member of the National Task Team on HIV/AIDS (NASCP), overseeing the implementation of HIV Testing Services across Nigeria.
● Membership in the African Society of Laboratory Medicine (ASLM).
● Trained as a ASLM Laboratory Network Leadership and LabCop member.
● Received specialized training from the US-CDC in Strengthening Laboratory Management Toward Accreditation (SLMTA).
● Got Certification as a Quality Management System Mentor and Auditor under the US-CDC program.
● Serving on the committee responsible for determining the Medical Laboratory Scientist-to-Patient and Population ratios in Nigeria (MLSCN).
● Contributing as a member of the National Laboratory Team on crucial surveys such as the National AIDS and Reproductive Health Survey (NARHS), the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Survey (IBBSS), and the Sero-Prevalence Antenatal Survey Quality Control in Nigeria.
● Playing an active role in the National and State Laboratory Technical Working Groups (N/SLTWG).
With a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Jenrola Olanrewaju Idris continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s Medical Laboratory landscape.
