WAPCMLS Organises Zonal Laboratory Leadership and Management Workshop Across Nigeria
Time is running out for Medical Laboratory Scientists to register for the 2026 Zonal Laboratory Leadership and Management (LLM) Workshop, organised by the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS), Nigeria Chapter.
The Foundation in Laboratory Leadership and Management (FLLM) Workshop is designed to equip Medical Laboratory Scientists, particularly those in managerial positions, with essential leadership, management and organisational skills required for effective laboratory service delivery.
The programme will take place across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with participants arriving on Monday, August 24, 2026. The workshop sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 to Friday, August 28, 2026, with departure on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The workshops will hold at designated venues in the North Central, North East, North West, South East, South South and South West zones. In the South West, the venue is the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Lagos.
According to the organisers, the training will address critical questions confronting laboratory leaders, including effective delegation of responsibilities, team building, laboratory budgeting, management of capital and recurrent expenditure, resource management, problem-solving and the development of conceptual skills required for effective leadership.
The workshop is particularly important for fellows, residents and Medical Laboratory Scientists in managerial positions, especially Chief Medical Laboratory Scientists (CMLS) and above.
The organisers also noted that participation is compulsory for applicants seeking WAPCMLS Fellowship through election or examination, with five credit units awarded for the application. Existing WAPCMLS Fellows who have not previously undergone leadership training are equally encouraged to participate.

Prof. Musa Abidemi Muibi
Nigeria Chapter Chairman of WAPCMLS, Prof. Musa Abidemi Muhibi, urged Medical Laboratory Scientists in managerial positions to prioritise the programme, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen professional and leadership competencies and contribute to stronger laboratory services in Nigeria.
Chairman, South West Organising Committee, Prof. Toyosi Yekeen Raheem, similarly encouraged professionals to register promptly, stressing that the leadership and management skills to be acquired would be far more valuable than the cost of participation.
The training fee is ₦85,000. Interested participants are encouraged to register without delay and make the necessary travel arrangements.
For registration and further information, participants should contact the National Organising Committee or their respective zonal coordinators.
