HCPAN LAGOS ADVOCATES VERITABLE HEALTH FINANCING OPTIONS
The 2025 Scientific conference and annual general meeting of the Healthcare Providers’ Association of Nigeria (HCPAN) Lagos held on Tuesday October 21st 2025 under the chairmanship of Prof. Akin Osibogun, the former Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) was centered on the theme “Unlocking the Value Chain in the Healthcare Sector through veritable health financing options” which was delivered by Professor Lere Baale.
In her welcome address, Pharm. Biola Paul-Ozieh, the Chairman, HCPAN Lagos informed the guests that HCPAN serves to enlighten members on the varied operations of the Health insurance and the constant update on current developments. According to her, the membership of the Association includes practicing Medical Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Physiotherapists, Radiographers, Nurses, Midwives, Optometrists and Nutritionists.
The Chairman continued her speech that health insurance is needed and useful because the era of the “out of pockets” payment for health care services is over and gone. She encouraged the people to embrace the federal government law that mandated every citizen of this nation to enroll into one form of health insurance scheme at the state or national level.
Professor Lere Baale, the keynote speaker emphasized the importance of values and adequate awareness for the health insurance system to succeed in Nigeria.
“We must provide value and awareness so that people can see the value of investing in health. The greater the awareness, the more people that will enroll on the scheme. Gone are the days when people believed that healthcare was solely the responsibility of the government. The available funds should be properly spent to encourage those who are investing in the scheme.”
The National President of HCPAN, Dr Austin Aipoh, commended the state executive members and the organizing committee for putting together the impactful program that complement the efforts of the state government on health insurance. He added that health insurance is the way to go if universal health insurance coverage must be achieved by 2030.
The Chairman of the conference planning committee, Mrs Mark Doris Chinelo Callistus appreciated those that made the program a huge success. She commended the facilitators for the support and encouragement.

Other speakers included Mrs Oladotun Adeogun, the Managing Director of Hallmark HMO and Ms Onome Debbie Akwa of Niche Customer Experience Consulting.
Awards were given to those recognized to have contributed to the success of the health insurance scheme and the Association.
