PEOPLE GATHERED TO CELEBRATE PROF. SEYI ADEYEBA
The fruits of the contributions of Professor Oluwaseyi Adeyeba, a Medical Laboratory Scientist to the society were exhibited during his retirement and birthday celebrations in both Ogbomosho and Ibadan respectively.
The epic events started with the Valedictory Lecture at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) , Ogbomosho Oyo State on Tuesday 4th February 2025.
The lecture topic was “Parasites Burden and Challenges: My Efforts Towards Healthier Communities”. It was the gathering of Scholars, friends, Mentes and family. The lecture was conceived, executed and delivered by respected Professor of Medical Microbiology, in the person of David Olusoga Ogbolu who happened to be one of his numerous students. Prof Ogbolu told our reporter the need to celebrate Professor Oluwaseyi Adeyeba, in his words “There is the need to celebrate this giant, the ‘founder, creator’ of modern Medical Laboratory Science particularly in the Southwestern Nigeria. LAUTECH is the pioneer of modern Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) in South West which he helped to establish through the Senate of the University. Many universities offering MLS in the Southwest today came after LAUTECH (using her prototype). We needed to do this on his behalf having gone through an ordeal and survived. This is a celebration of an icon, pillar and giant of the Medical Laboratory Science profession”.
The birthday ceremony at Ibadan on the 7th February 2025 started with a Church Service at Baptist Church Orita-Mefa Ibadan. The commitment of the celebrant to the work of God was testified to by both the church leaders and the members. He was surrounded by his family, friends and colleagues to give Almighty God thanks for keeping him alive to witness the events.
The reception at Emeritus Professor T. Oladipo Ogunlesi Hall was the Hallmark of the events. The celebrant was visibly seen to be happy and he danced and poised for photography to the admiration of those present.
The Chairman of the occasion was Prof. Senator Olusola Adeyeye (a Medical Laboratory Scientist of repute) who was a lecturer and Mentor of the celebrant. He praised him for being a dedicated Christian. He recalled how Prof. Adeyeba sold his television to buy an instrument for the church in his early days.

Prof. Adeyeba was surrounded by his amiable wife, Mrs. Alice Olunike Adeyeba, children, friends, colleagues and Mentes.
We left the hall with different testimonies pointing to the fact that Prof. Adeyeba has lived an impactful life.
