AMLSN Lagos Set to Host 61st Annual Scientific Conference on Global Innovations in Laboratory Medicine
The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Lagos State Branch, has concluded arrangements for its 61st Annual Scientific Conference, a premier professional gathering aimed at advancing laboratory medicine and strengthening healthcare delivery in Nigeria through innovation, collaboration and global best practices.
The conference is scheduled to hold from Sunday, July 26 to Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
With the theme, “Global Innovation in Laboratory Medicine: Sustaining Global Best Practices for Better Health Outcomes in Nigeria,” the conference will bring together medical laboratory scientists, healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, academics, industry leaders and development partners to deliberate on emerging trends and practical solutions for improving diagnostic services in Nigeria.

The Chairman of AMLSN Lagos State Branch and Chief Host, Comrade Kabiawu Gbolahan Adegboyega, said the conference underscores the association’s commitment to promoting excellence in laboratory practice, embracing technological innovations and strengthening quality healthcare through accurate and reliable laboratory diagnostics.
The conference will feature Professor Olufemi Omoniyi Oguntibeju, of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Wellness Sciences, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa, as the keynote speaker. He is expected to deliver insights on global developments in laboratory medicine and the strategies required to sustain international best practices within Nigeria’s healthcare system.
The conference will explore several contemporary issues shaping laboratory medicine, including digital laboratory medicine and artificial intelligence for enhanced diagnostic accuracy and faster turnaround time; expanding point-of-care testing to underserved rural communities; local manufacturing of diagnostic reagents and consumables to improve supply chain resilience; innovative surveillance systems for infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness; standardisation of laboratory practices in line with international standards; regulatory frameworks for digital health and tele-laboratory services; and strategies for optimising returns on diagnostic investments in Nigeria.
