LASCOHET GRADUATES MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS
The 11th Orientation and Oath-taking Ceremony of the School of Medical Laboratory Technicians, Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) Yaba held on July 31st 2025 was an event to remember for a long time to come.
The class of 2024 Graduands of the School of Medical Laboratory Technicians of the Lagos State College of Health Technology Yaba were admitted into the Medical Laboratory Profession by the Acting Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Donald Ofili who was ably represented by Mrs Funmilayo Onakalu.

The Provost of the College, Prof. Raheem Olasupo Akewushola welcomed the guests and the graduands. He appreciated the Registrar of the MLSCN for supporting the College.

He expressed his commitment to raising the standards of the Medical Laboratory Technicians from his College in his speech, “Since my assumption of office as the Provost of this institution, I have taken it as a point of duty to raise the standards of the training of the Medical Laboratory Technicians among other departments. We have improved in teaching, practical and morals in accordance with the ethics of the Medical Laboratory profession.”
Prof. Akewushola advised the graduands to be good Ambassadors of the College and to stay curious, keep learning, embracing new technologies and seeking for continuous development through professional certifications and advanced training.
The Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) admonished the graduands to keep developing themselves and maintain professional integrity.
The Guest Speaker, Prof. Kolawole Oyedeji, the Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, College of Medicine, University of Lagos centered his lecture on the theme of the occasion, “Ethical Integrity and Service to Humanity in the Medical Laboratory Profession.”

According to Prof. Oyedeji, ethical behavior in Medical Laboratories is essential for maintaining public trust, ensuring patient safety, and promoting the overall integrity of the healthcare system.
He went further to remind the graduands that Medical laboratory professionals play critical roles in healthcare and their ethical conduct directly impacts patients outcomes and public health.
He reiterated that the ethics of the Medical Laboratory Profession cannot be overemphasized especially in the aspect of planning, performing, recording, monitoring, reporting, and archiving of patient’s results.
The Dean of the School of Medical Laboratory Technicians, Mrs Adekoya Vivien Emecham presented the graduands to the acting Registrar of the MLSCN for the Oath-taking Ceremony.

The graduands of the De-Potter College of Health Technology Oru Ijebu who were part of the ceremony were led by Mr Taiwo Moses and Mr Igbe Francis
The best overall graduand in the set, Oyeleke Zainab was presented with an award and a cash gift courtesy, the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD) Lagos. While the second best overall, Titiloye Taofeek also received an award and a cash gift courtesy the Association of Medical Laboratory Technician and Assistant of Nigeria (AMELTAN).
Mrs Doris Calistus Chinelo, the Vice Chairman of GMLD Lagos and the Director of the Agape Medical Diagnostic Services congratulated the awardees and affirmed support for Industrial training and employment opportunities in the private sector too.
Other people present at the occasion were, the College Deputy Provost Academic, Dr Olaronke Agoro, Deputy Provost Administration, Mrs Uthman-Izobo Oyeronke, the College Registrar, Mr Ekundayo C. Olusegun, College Librarian, Agbooba H. Olusola, all the Deans of the schools, the Head, MLSCN South West zonal office , Dr Paulinus Nnamdi Offutalus, Vice President South West of the Guild of the Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD), Mr Onaneye Olumuyiwa, National Secretary General of the GMLD, Igwe Akujuobi, the Chairman of GMLD Lagos State, Adekoya Abimbola Julius, the Assistant Secretary General of GMLD, Ikechukwu Unamba and the wife who is the Director of the Bio-Flourishing Hospital and Medical Services, Dr Ijeoma Unamba, Chairman of AMELTAN Lagos State, Comrade Ahmed Mamudu and the Students Union President of LASCOHET, Comrade Akolade Omotuyi.
