Born on 20 February 1956 at the Local Government Maternity Centre in Owo, present-day Ondo State, Tairu Anifowose’s formative years reflected the values that would later define his career: diligence, humility, and intellectual curiosity. He began his education in 1961 at the Local Authority Primary School, Owo (later Methodist 2 Primary School), completing his primary education in 1967. He proceeded to Owo High School between 1968 and 1972, an institution founded by the late statesman Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, whose disciplined academic culture shaped generations of professionals.
His professional calling took clearer form when he enrolled at the School of Medical Laboratory Science, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, from 1974 to 1978.
There he obtained the Associate Membership of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology (AIMLT), a degree-level diploma with specialization in chemical pathology (clinical chemistry).
His intellectual distinction and character were evident early: he received the prestigious House Governor’s Prize (later Director of Administration’s Prize) as the Best All-Round Student of his graduating class in 1978. There he rose to Senior Clinical Information Systems Specialist, contributing to the advancement and adoption of laboratory diagnostic technologies in Nigeria at a time when modern laboratory automation was still emerging.
Yet his most enduring contribution began in 1990 with the establishment of Anifo-Medik International Limited, a private diagnostic laboratory enterprise in Ibadan. Under his leadership, the laboratory built a reputation strong enough to attract international partnerships, notably its appointment by the German manufacturer DiaSys Diagnostic Systems GmbH as representative in Nigeria. Mr. Anifowose is married to Mrs. Kehinde Anifowose, a distinguished medical laboratory scientist in haematology and blood transfusion science who retired as Deputy Director with the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board.
