LASHMA TAKES RURAL HEALTH SCHEME TO BADAGRY, COMMISSIONS EKOSHA MOBILE CLINIC FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNIITIES IN ERIKITI OGLO

The Lagos State Health Management Agency, (LASHMA), in its commitment to ensure that the underserved communities in the Badagry Division of the State, have access to quality and equitable healthcare services, has deployed and commissioned EKO Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA) mobile clinic for the use of the residents in Erikiti Oglo and its environment.

Speaking during the commissioning of EKOSHA mobile clinic at Erikiti Oglo, Badagry, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emnanuella Zamba, said that the rural health scheme was designed to bridge the gap for healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable residents in hard-to-reach communities, particularly where Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) is not available or where the existing PHC, is undergoing reconstruction or renovation.

Dr. Zamba disclosed that the deployment of EKOSHA mobile clinic to Erikiti Oglo and its environment, has clearly demonstrated the practical commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to improving the health and wellbeing of Lagos residents as well as takes healthcare access closer to residents in hard-to-reach communities in the State.

She commended Mr. Governor for creating opportunities for residents, especially the vulnerable population, to access quality and affordable healthcare without being pushed into financial hardship.

The Baale Erikiti Oglo, Badagry, Chief Baale Abila Sedowhe, commissioning the EKO Social Health Alliance Mobile Clinic, for the residents of Erikiti Oglo and its environment. With him is the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emnanuella Zamba, Baale Erikiti Topa, Chief Baale, Gigonu Sunday Hunge and Baale Tohon, Chief Baale Sotin Adeoye.

The mobile clinic, which will be in the community every Tuesday, 8am – 5pm, according to the Permanent Secretary, would provide general consultations via telemedicine services, treatment of common illnesses, management of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and asthma, treatment of childhood illnesses, basic laboratory investigations, health education, counselling, as well as drugs dispensing among others.

Dr. Zamba added that residents can also do their vital checks such as Blood Sugar. BP, weight and pulse through the mobile clinic. She reminded the residents that the mobile clinic is not a permanent one as it would be withdrawn, once the community has a functional PHC or facility.

The Permanent Secretary recalled that during the flag-off of the first phase Rural Health Scheme at Agboyi – Ori Omi on 11th November, 2025, the Agency promised to provide mobile clinics at five different hard-to-reach locations in the State. She said ” today, two communities out of the five locations have been provided with mobile clinics and soon, the three others would be provided”.

She applauded the Baale of Erikiti Oglo, Chief Baale Abila Sedowhe Azonagbo, for his support in making the intervention possible, bring healthcare closer to the people at the grassroots and move Lagos State closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The Permanent Secretary, LASHMA, urged the people of Erikiti Oglo and its neighbouring communities to take ownership of the programme, embrace the initiative, register on the Scheme, utilise the mobile clinic and give constructive feedback to the Agency on how to continually improve the medical intervention.

Dr. Zamba assured the residents that in case of any medical challenge which cannot be provided by the mobile clinic, a referral would be generated to Ajara PHC or Badagry GH, by the mobile clinic for further medical treatment of the patient. She added that the Agency has made preparations with the transport operators in the community to take the patient to the referred hospital and that LASHMA would bear the transport cost.

The Permanent Secretary promised the residents that the Agency would still increase the number of visit by the mobile clinic once the communities are able to increase the number of the beneficiaries on the Scheme to 5,000.

Responding on behalf of the Baales in the communities, the Baale Erikiti Oglo, Chief Baale Abila Sedowhe, thanked the Lagos State Government and the Permanent Secretary, LASHMA. Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, for bringing the mobile clinic to the people in Erikiti Oglo and its environment.

He said, ‘pregnant women, nursing mothers and their children including the elderly, usually travelled long distances to access healthcare services, but now, with the mobile clinic, they would be relieved of travelling long distances to seek medical attention”.

The Chief Baale who applauded his coleagues for attending the event, implored other Baales to ensure that their residents enroll on EKOSHA and utilised the mobile clinic instead of doing self- medication.

The event featured free health screening on blood sugar, blood pressure, weight and height checks for the community members who also consulted with Medical Doctors via ILERA EKO Telemedicine service.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Permanent Secretary, Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Ashiyanbi, Baale Agbovipe, Chief Baale Peter Tonda, Baale Tohon, Chief Baale Sotin Adeoye, and Baale – elect, Zinvie, Chief Abiye Hunsitode who was represented by Chief Abba.
